quick highlight of Diwali show

That's me trying to look cool with the guitar at the ISA Diwali show. PARAM's performance sucked because the sound system was horrible. The guy who was controlling the mixer wouldn't let us turn the volume up. As a result, none of us could hear the main keyboard, we were getting offbeat, and the volume levels were going crazy. Actually now that I think about it, the whole show sucked! There weren't any amazing performances other than Parag J.'s telugu dance. The fashion show was boring and repetitive and had ugly models with too much makeup. Most of the MCs didn't know what they were doing. I think when it comes to MCing, me, Adip, and Namrata have set high standards for all these new people. ISA has had much better shows in the past. I feel bad for all those people who spent $7 to come see this, but I guess it wasn't that bad since the price included food. Thanks to all those people who came to show some support and watch me play!

Here's the hardworking executive board of ISA of OSU with a couple of members missing.

There are many more pictures but I'm too lazy to post them. You can check some of them out on facebook if you're on it.

On upcoming (movie) events

I went to see the new Harry Potter movie at midnight of Thursday, even though I had a midterm the next day. I felt prepared for the midterm so I didn't mind going. And I wasn't going to miss out on such a big movie event! I was gonna post pictures from that night when we were all waiting in line but Mr. Mittal beat me to it. Anyway, I was excited to go because we were gonna see it at Grand Arena Theater (which has THX certified screens!) for only $3! But I was even more excited for the previews because they were supposed to show the new Superman teaser before the movie. Sadly, the teaser never played. In fact, they didn't even show the latest King Kong trailer. How pathetic is that?! I got over it as soon as the movie started. I haven't read any of the HP books so I don't have anything to compare the movies to. But I thought this one was pretty good. I could tell that it was a bit rushed and there was something missing. But I really liked how they showed the kids behave different now that they've matured. And the best part was the visual effects. No, not because they were groundbreaking or anything but because they never stood out of the movie. The CG was even more improved this time and never during the movie did I feel distracted by the visual effects (unlike the new STAR WARS movies...ugh) After seeing this one I wish they had extended version of the HP movies. That would make the fans of the book happy.

After the movie was over, I started thinking about what's the next movie I can look forward to. Suddenly I realized that the upcoming year is FILLED with exciting movie releases!!!

First is this movie version of the classic children's book by C.S. Lewis. I'm very excited to see how Weta Workshop has brought the world of Narnia to life. Only thing I'm worried about is that it's made by Disney...

Yes it's about a giant angry monkey who falls for a beautiful woman, and yes it has dinosaurs in it. But I refuse to believe that you will not get excited after watching the trailer! Only 3 weeks left for this one!!! Can't wait to see how Peter Jackson has treated his dream project. Best of all...it's 2 and half hours!!

Directed by Steven Spielberg. 'Nuff said!

Winter break is taken care of. No interesting releases all the way till May when everybody's favorite squirrel returns on screen.

Everyone's read the mindblowing book. Now it's time to actually see it. I don't know how the hell they are going to fit everything in the movie. But I'm sure Ron Howard will do justice to it. And there's the promising cast (Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reano, Ian McKellen, and many more!)

X2 was frikkin sweet! But Bret Ratner is making this one. I dunno about that...

Directed by John Lassetter, this will be the last movie made by both Pixar & Disney. Talk about coming full circle!

And last but not the least, the most anticipated movie of the year...maybe even the decade!! The Man Of Steel will return to Earth (and on screen) after a long visit to his home planet of Krypton. The teaser kinda sucks but that's okay. From what I've seen on the video blogs, Bryan Singer is cooking up something very extraordinary. The big question is whether this new guy Brandon Routh will be as good, if not better, as the late Christopher Reeve. We'll just have to wait till June.

Wow that took a lot of space! These movie studios should pay me for promoting their movies! They probably won't, in which case I might have to encourage everyone to just download them instead. But these movies look too good for that. December can't be any farther...!

Diwali may be long gone...but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate!

Tickets will be sold at the door. Dinner is included in the $7. And yes...there will be lots of NAAN ;-). And also, I'm performing (playing guitar) in a band called PARAM. So come and cheer for me!!

Behold the power of facebook groups!

Until now, I never realized what a HUGE impact a small thing like a facebook group can have!! Who knew that a group like "I love sleep" (created by the tallest Indian in the world, who also happens to be my roommate!) could get over a 1000 members while groups like "I hate ISA" (which, for the record, was created all out of good humor) can cause so much controversy?! Is it just me, or people really can't see how pointless and meaningless these things are? As a matter of fact, does nobody realize how retarded the whole facebook thing is?!

I don't think anyone even uses it for what it's actually meant for: making NEW friends. You go to a party and talk to random people for like 5 minutes and u'll probably never see them again! But go home and check your e-mail and your inbox will be full of facebook invitations. It's like a popularity competition back from middle school and high school. "Yess! I have 200 friends!" (yes...someone I know did actually say that.) And then after adding them to your list you will actually read through everyone's profiles, check all their list of friends, read their profiles, see how they're all connected to you in the world of facebook, and so on...

And now since giving out your whole life's information wasn't already enough, they added a new feature where you can upload your pictures. So the whole world can know what you and your friends/acquaintances/parents/pets/anybody else remotely related to you look like and what everyone does together, etc. etc. Not only that, they have facebook for high school too now! What a wonderful way to promote conformity, stereotyping, and procrastination!! Ugh.

Before you think that i'm a big hypocrite to be writing all this, let me inform you that i'm an active facebook member. In fact, i was one of the first people to get on it back when not the whole world knew about it. I think it's a really convenient way to keep track of your old friends from high school and a great networking tool for communicating with people from your classes. Yea I also think it's a big waste of time, but then again, what better things does a college student like myself have to do?

I hate to admit it but Facebook is actually one of my favorite passtimes. I love reading people's profiles and their walls and seeing who they're friends with and who they're in relationships with and what they're looking for (random play <- wtf does that really mean anyway!?) The best time to go on facebook is right after the weekend because everyone will update their picture. It's hilarious to see some guy trying to look cool by replacing his picture with one from some party where he got his picture taken with some random hot girl (i've done it too haha!) Oh and did i mention facebook groups??

Oh yes i did. These things are so powerful they can start a revolution! A group based on an inside joke about hating a wonderful campus organization turned into an ugly quarrel. Another group that makes fun of females of a certain nationality...ok i don't like writing like this. A group called "Wow, You're an Indian Girl at Osu and You're Unattractive-shocker!" has shown great potential of causing a riot among the indian female population of OSU. The group already has its own little "fanbase" too! Yea I admit it's being very immature and ignorant and insensitive and blah blah blah. But goddamn people settle down...it's only a frikin facebook group!! Being a member of such silly little groups does not define anybody's character. Nor does it accurately express an individual's opinion about a thing or a group of people or an organization or whatever! Don't go all crazy feeling offended and taking everything personally all cause a bunch of bored bums (including myself of course) who have nothing better to do decide to amuse themselves by making fun of people who take facebook so seriously! Trust me, it ain't worth it!

Aah...so now that I have that out of the way, i'm gonna go get some shut-eye before i get up on a nice Sunday afternoon and look through all the flyers of my favorite electronics stores. Good night!

P.S. - Oh and I almost forgot...don't forget to Facebook me!

i was thinking about what to write...
